Spotlight on the OCA Board of Directors

Doug Kaufman
Feedlot Representative

Doug Kaufman joined the OCA Board in 2003 as a Feedlot Representative and will retire from the board this year after serving his third consecutive term.
This seasoned board member was born in Oxford County where his father Vern Kaufman (OCA President in 1969) operated the first modern feedlot in western Ontario in 1958 and also built the first tower silo in Ontario. In 1978, Doug ventured off the home farm and built a feedlot in Bright, Ontario where he finished 1200 cattle yearly for 20 years. After much thought, Doug and his family of five sold the property and moved back to the outskirts of Woodstock. Later learning that his feedlot operation was too close to the city limits, Doug made the decision to close his feedlot and a few years ago. More recently Doug and David converted their 500-sow unit, located three miles north of Woodstock, to a cattle barn with a capacity of 300 head where all cattle are finished through the Ontario Corn-Fed Beef Program. Doug and Evelyn Kaufman are the proud parents of their two sons Brian, who works in the swine industry, and David and daughter Leanne, a lawyer living in the Toronto area.

Doug was a founding member of the Ontario Cattle Feeders’ Association and has been very active in the agricultural community. Doug has owned and operated Oxford AgriPro Ltd. in Hickson for over 25 years along with managing his livestock trucking business V.J. Kaufman Ltd.

Doug’s extensive resume includes his involvement in a number of associations and committees including West General Mutual Insurance, Oxford County Cattlemen’s Association, Ontario Corn-Fed Beef, National Cattle Feeders’ Association and the OCA Government Relations Committee.

Tom Wilson
Southern Representative

Tom was elected to the OCA Board in February of 2010 as a Southern Director representing those members in South Western Ontario.

Tom, along with his wife Linda and their two sons Doug and Derek run 2200 acres of corn, beans and wheat and finish 700 cattle a year into the Ontario Corn-Fed Beef Program. Tom was born and raised in Corunna, Ontario where he and his father, Keith, built their first feedlot in 1972 that is still in operation today. Tom and his family now source age-verified and vaccinated cattle and have converted two other barns into covered feedlots utilizing funding through the Environmental Farm Plan. Tom and his wife live on a Century Farm, on the same property where his father was born and raised. Doug with his wife Nicole and son Tyler live on the neighbouring farm that has been in the Wilson family name for over 75 years and Derek lives nearby with his wife Corrin and their children Samantha and Nathan. Having two sons passionate about farming, Tom stands behind the principle that we need to have an industry in Ontario that is profitable for all to ensure that the next generation of beef farmers will remain in the beef business.

Tom has a variety of experience having held a Provincial Director seat with the Ontario Corn Producer’s Association for five years and he is an active member with the Lambton County Cattlemen’s Association along with his church. Tom currently sits on the OCA Government Relations and Nominations Committees.
When Tom isn’t busy feeding cattle, running equipment and representing the producers in this province, you can find him and Linda swinging their clubs at the golf course!
