Canadian Cattlemen's Association Reacts to USDA
Announcement
December 23, 2003
The Canadian Cattlemen's Association (CCA) today reacted with empathy to
the
United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) announcement of a
presumptive
positive case of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) in a cow in
Washington State. The diagnosis is a presumptive positive only.
Final test
results will be available within the next very few days.
The situation Canada has experienced over the past few months has been
extremely difficult. Our well wishes go out to U.S. cattle producers. It's
too soon to tell what impact today's announcement will have on the
situation
in North America.
The Canadian Cattlemen's Association would like to re-emphasize the safety
of North American beef products. Both Canada and the U.S. have taken
the
necessary precautions to ensure the safety of their beef products.
All
necessary precautions have also been taken to ensure this disease does not
spread.
