Age Verification Program - March, 2005
Prepared by the Ontario Cattlemen’s Association

Q: Is internet the only method available?
A: Yes, this ensures data integrity and the efficient uploading and data queries of birth dates.

Q: If a producer has more than one PIN number, will any of the PIN numbers allow him to input tag numbers that were not purchased under a specific PIN number? In other words, Does a producer’s name override PIN numbers (if there are more than one) that may be registered to his or her name?
A: The PIN is the default and the tags are registered to the specific PIN. If a producer has multiple PIN’s he should contact CCIA to have them migrated to one common PIN associated with his herd of origin.

Q: How does it work where spouses, partners and children purchase tags?
A: Tags are purchased under the same common PIN. Purchasing for a different herd of origin requires the written authorization of the producer.

Q: Is the database site-specific, allowing more than one name to be registered for one location?
A: Multiple names can be registered but if all names (PIN’s) are co-mingling cattle under the same herd of origin, the PIN should be the same. There should only be one PIN for each herd of origin.

Q: Can a third party (such as a central processing station) input birthdate information assuming that the producer has provided his/her PIN number?
A: The producer has to validate and then he/she can assign a third party to submit on their behalf. This proxy then has to validate as a user.

Q: Will age verification software be available for bar code as well as RFID tags?
A: The system recognizes both RFID and Bar Code tag numbers.

Q: What does the following statement mean? Maintain credibility of database by validating producers against existing CTS data to verify source. This is from the power point presentation.
A: The purpose of producer validation is to enter the producer information and cross reference it with a CCIA tag number that has been issued to that same producer./ This ensures that the person submitting birth date information is who they say they are. The entered data could be challenged if this process has not been completed.

Q: What is the status of verifying birthdate information? Is CFIA or anyone else leaning any particular way?
A: We are still waiting for CFIA’s indication of how everything will be audited. The sytem has been created to allow for this auditing through verification of supporting data.
